You can find items at yard sales that make it go with any kitchen decor. If your kitchen is country style, look for old baskets and pieces of ancient pottery bowls and pitchers. Look for old wooden boxes or silver trays that can be used as decorative items – this old wood adds warmth and character to your kitchen.

Yard sale finds are perfect for decorating a retro style kitchen. You can still find many kitchen items from the 1970s and 60 in good condition. Some of them are true collectibles but many are just fun and decorative. I always look for old bread boxes, game cartridge, salt and pepper shakers, napkin rings, clocks and other bric a brac for my retro kitchen.

In the absence of any ready-made option, if you’re handy (or know someone who is), create your own island with cabinets on hand (like a pair of wall cabinets attached back to back) of a center of origin. It’s okay to go with a different finish what is in their booths and others, too. Paint the bottom of the island a contrasting color to the block and the top laminate butcher, or granite-look luxury.

Get rid of those boring white walls!

The good news about this project is that the paint is cheap and kitchen walls are generally limited to small areas mentioned above, between, and next to the cabinets. The bad news: you’ll have to mask cabinets and counters with blue tape and plastic sheeting for paint drips and errors will not be a concern.

If you prefer a modern or contemporary kitchen, you can find many almost new and used items carefully to suit your tastes at every yard sale. Try hitting the sales in the luxury section of the city and you could find some very expensive items for much less than you would in the retail store.
